Sometimes, we begin to look for people with whom we could share our diversions. Before we know it, we have already formed a group which later on becomes an accredited organization. This notion applies with maps.
IMCOS is a society of
map collectors. Its members range from enthusiasts to professional cartographers. Just what is the big deal in joining the society? Definitely collecting maps is an artful education. We need not be fully erudite just to grasp the big picture behind a map. In fact, a map must be studied inductively. A map is not just a sketch but is a fountain of learning.
While I was looking at the map of
Indian Religious sites, it crossed my mind that if such maps of certain topics exists, then we will have a wider understanding of the country being described. Whoever collects this kind of map has the benefit of knowing India deeply. Incidentally, I learned about IMCOS and it inspired me to join the society. Collecting maps leads us to the discovery of historical pilgrimages, areal surveys, art of cartography, and a glimpse of how the people of the past walked the earth. Furthermore, members of the society enjoy the benefits of being admitted to symposiums, exhibits, IMCOS libraries, and the journals.
