Unknown to many, the map of Missouri is the result of one of the most controversial expeditions in American history is the journey undertake by William Clark and Meriwether Lewis. Their journey began on the 14th of May in 1803. The long expedition, which focused in Missouri, took them almost two years to complete. The exploration was undertaken a few years before the
war of 1812. The map the voyagers have produced have become the basis of the present map of Missouri.
Astoundingly, the 8000-mile journey brought a lot of new discoveries for Americans. The voyagers were able to navigate the continent through the river Missouri. Clark used his innate cartographic skills in constructing a
Western map in 1810. Along with the cabin crew provided for them by President Jefferson, and friends whom Clark and Lewis have trusted to accompany them on their journey, every encounter is being recorded. The same chronicles were presented to the President and has become the encyclopedic atlas of Missouri.
One of the major events in the exploration is the discovery a certain fish species whose detailed description was included in the chronicles. Also, it was they who discovered the grizzly bear and prairie dog. However, the biggest achievement of the voyage was the creation of the map of the journey. We can see in the cartography the different bodies of water that surround and penetrate the woodlands, the divers' rock conformations, and soil types in Missouri. All in all, the Clark and Lewis map is a topographical cartography of west America.
