Upon hearing Egypt, I am reminded of mummies and pyramids and of course, its desert.
Countless Hollywood films have featured Egypt, one of which is The Mummy. I have had the chance to go to Egypt when a friend who is continually interested with archeology and Egyptology asked me to come along.
Egypt, as I have always suspected is a captivating country. Its geographical location is right at the middle of the three continents of Asia, Europe and Africa-- it being in the southwestern Asia and northeastern end of Africa. Egypt covers a total land area of 995,450 square kilometres, (approximately thrice the vastness of
New Mexico) and is bounded on the north by the Mediterranean Sea and on the East by the Red Sea. Although this country doesn't have forests, you can find date palms, citrus groves and the Papyrus plant which grows closely by the Nile river.
Since most of the Egypt land area is part of the large
Sahara desert, the majority of its population lives near the banks of the Nile River. Egypt has the fifteenth most inhabited country, with 78.8 million population, half of which are living in the urban cities of Cairo and Alexandria. Aside from the gargantuan Pyramids of Giza, Cairo, the largest city in Africa is also a magnificent sight to see at night with all its lights and sounds.
