
Australia, the world's smallest continent, is sandwiched between the Pacific and Indian Oceans. The capital of Australia is Canberra, but the largest of the cities is Sydney. Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia, and South Australia are the so-called continental states. The country bestows power that is symbolic of the British Monarch which clearly manifests the
colonial history of the country.
The country's territories are Christmas Island, Norfolk Island, the Antarctic Australian Territory, and Keeling Islands.
Geographical wonders of Australia include long ranges of mountain stretching from the north to the south along the east. The highest peak in the country is Mt. Kosciusko at 7,308 feet or 2,228 meters. Being a progressive country, it is not only famous for its long coastal areas; its ranges of mountain are surely good spot for
hiking trails enthusiasts.
Half the continent in the western part is mostly desert plateaus that rise to barren and hills. The northeast prides itself with the Great Barrier Reef which is roughly 1,245 mi or 2,000 kilometers. Off the coast in the southeast is the Tasmanian Island which is about 26,178 sq mi or 67,800 sq km.
