The
Korean Peninsula Crisis, which started shortly after the Second World War ended, concerns the once united North Korea and South Korea. These two nations used to share the
same rich history. The problem emanated with the division of control over the peninsula. Before the war, the peninsula used to be ruled by then powerful Japan.
The south was controlled by the US, while the north was under the wing of the Soviet Union. Consequently, both nations established governments patterned after the forms of government of nations in control of them, thus, creating extremities that further sparked chaos in the peninsula. The daring North Koreans invaded the peace-loving South Koreans. This assault paved the way to the Korean War in the 1950s.
However, with the UN interventions and US-backed coalitions, the war subsided, and peace and order situation returned to its normal state. As of today, both nations still adhere to different ideologies that dampen the possibility of unification. The sad thing is, the North Koreans are less developed as opposed to the more advanced South Koreans. As such, there are lesser jobs and opportunities,
income-generating industries, and other aspects of development. The battle, many say, continues. Anytime, a rift between the two may erupt. On the other hand, unification is also a great possibility.
