renaissance period, the number of maps was limited since there was no machine invented yet for printing. It was in the 15th century when copies of maps were finally printed and distributed at a larger scale. Carved blocks of wood were initially
used for printing. Then, in the 16th century, copper plates were introduced and were widely used until more advanced machines evolved.
The navigations and explorations during the 15th and 16th century played a significant role in the development of cartography. The discovery of the New World and other places around the globe added more details to the world map during that time.
Maps held great value during the 15th and
16th century especially in politics, military, economy, and explorations.
